Branding is one of the most important aspects of any business, large or small. Simply put, your brand is your promise to your customer. It tells them what they can expect from you, and it differentiates your services and products from your competitors.

The AICI NY / Tri-State Chapter sponsored an event that will make a difference in your business and help you be more successful. The Five branding specialists that were on the panel including myself gathered to discuss and share our best practices, techniques and tricks of the trade especially useful in your Image Consulting business.

The event took place at FIT (The Fashion Institute of Technology) here in New York City and the following section is but an excerpt taken from this event to be followed by a series of other topics (7 in all) discussed during that event over the next several weeks

To start this series, the following post pertains to an approach that didn’t get discussed very much during the panel discussion due to the format and time limitations….

“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it”

A simple but elegant concept put forth by Simon Sinek whom I both respect and admire for his passion and scholarship on the subject. Simon is best known for popularizing the concept of “The Golden Circle” and to “Start With Why“, described at TED Talks as “a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership

“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it”

as a cause and effect – an innovative idea concept or thought (connected to branding for the good of society), can be a powerful agent for change and can be as simple as  someone smiling and affecting those immediately around them, a process through which innovation, results in the evolution of attitudes and understanding in accepting different points of view or ways of thinking that are normally communicated over a period of time among members of a specific social system

with ignorance, poverty, terrorism, and climate change as the greatest challenges the human race has ever faced how will you harness the power of human interaction to effect the changes necessary to address these challenges? Can you be part of this movement? Or will you turn your back?

using the power of human interaction and the resulting responses, can lead to the diffusion of original shared thoughts and ideas that can reach a tipping point through out a culture or social system (via early adopters and could mean the difference between our collective success as a race or our absolute failure to step up as individuals (but the right individuals must be targeted).

the mission is to achieve success through the implementation of collaborative human interaction with innovative thoughts and ideas to address the worlds greatest challenges

I Incorporated the theory and vision of Everett M. Rogers Diffusion of Innovation concepts to “Think Beyond Yourself” in order to effect change in the world and “Take Charge Of Your Brand” along with Simon Sinek author of the Golden Circle

The next question in the series will focus on…

“What exactly is a brand?  What are the most important components of a brand?
